Little Finger and Gaultier in Kids Fashion

Well, this "Finger in the Nose" and "Jean  paul Gautier's" brand is the epitome of style (regardless of the size of their audience!) From its ‘Sartorialist-snap-worthy’ mini models with just the right amount of attitude to its authentic rock n roll aesthetic, this brand offers quality kids’ wear for the emerging fashionista.
Kids’ wear is a competitive market, but with style running through the Parisian’s veins, JPG is spot on with the modern and age-appropriate collection. It’s got the right amount of fashionability, bold shapes and distinct tailoring of JPG’s adult range but with a sense of fun and wearability more suited to kids.
This is not just about cutting a stylish figure on the streets; Once upon a time, it was hand-me-downs from your older brothers and sisters. These days, any brand worth its weight in fashion gold, will have a diffusion range of kids’ wear offering the same grown-up aesthetic for young fashionistas and their stylish parents.
Integral to its DNA is the long-term quality of the pieces, offering superior comfort and wearability. They use 9-11 ounce real European denim with raw, stone, bleach, snow and leather-look washes, and real feather down for their jackets and Geelong merino angora for their knitwear. Their 100% cotton tees feature wild animals and mythology-style graphic prints. The only negative? Your kids could quite likely steal the spotlight from your own sartorial efforts. Consider yourself warned!

Men’s Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Trend – All American

America, the home of Hollywood, the Statue of Liberty, baseball, Elvis, the Simpsons and errrr Britney Spears? Love it or hate it, you can’t get away from the USA and its global influence on our lives and our fashion. But rather than taking style inspiration from obvious American icons like Kanye West or George Clooney, this spring it’s all about going back to school –Stateside.

Across the pond here in blighty, we don’t go on spring break, or summer camp and our idea of football doesn‘t involve shoulder pads and cheerleaders, but the All American style has never been closer to home. Inspired by classic American sportswear this trend has a modern edgy feel, with a nostalgic nod to the 50’s that makes it stand out, particularly in the UK. It can only be described as ‘campus chic’.

So lets start with the basics. The good news is that most of you guys will already own a few of the key items and your look will start to take shape fairly quickly. Remember how your wardrobe was full of pastels, shirts, nautical tees and tailored shorts last summer? Well you can use these items as your style base. Although this is a more relaxed, casual trend it has an obvious preppy influence so your current wardrobe can be adapted to fit. Think dirty pastels, light blues and yellows for shirts, polo’s and summer knits combined with either dark denim or beige chino’s. Here are some of my tops picks from the current collections:

The reason I love the All American look so much are the stand out, high trend pieces that give you the opportunity to give this look your own stamp and an individual feel. They can be either smarted up, or toned down to suit but the most important thing is they give you the freedom to express your eccentric side. You can step up to the plate with as a jock with a baseball jacket and high tops or you can let your inner art geek shine with brown brogues:

There is so much to celebrate within British fashion right now, but one thing’s for sure this is definitely one Stateside trend worth following. As far as I’m concerned, you can keep your blockbuster movies and TV musicals because there is only one American export we’re interested in this summer – it’s now up to you guys to ensure you’re not a college drop out.

Will jeans forever dominate the male wardrobe; or are there alternatives with the same appeal?

Jeans are likely to be the staple of nearly every man’s wardrobe, and there are several reasons for this. Jeans combine style with comfort seamlessly, and this has to be the most winning combination of features in the fashion world. They are also flexible; able to be worn for almost any occasions. Tell any guy to dress smartly and it would not be a surprise if they went for their best pair of jeans, but they might well wear the same pair the next day when they head to the supermarket. No other pieceseems to have these qualities.

Jean domination is a relatively new phenomenon, with jeans only reaching their prominence seen today from the mid 1980’s in Britain, having migrated from the states. Nowadays, jeans have become so prolific that it isn’t unreasonable to wonder what we wore before they were around. But there definitely were alternatives, and while we’ve spent the last 20 years doing everything and anything in denim bottoms, fashion designers have been re-assembling some of these forgotten gems into contemporary pieces for today.

These have taken shape in a number of familiar styles, all of which have been around for a while but have all been worked recently to give them that flexibility so familiar in jeans. So for Spring/Summer this year, why not try one of these alternatives.

The Alternatives

First of all there are chinos, an obvious alternative to jeans in terms of their suitability for smart/casual occasions. Chinos are known for being khaki coloured and usually quite loose fitting, but they are now available in a huge variety of bright colours and slimmer fits, and whilst these styles obviously lose their ’smart’ label they are a great escape from any jean fatigue.

Then, definitely less widely developed by designers, are cords. These come in a variety of usually darker shades; navy, deep green; but lighter, brighter colours can also be found, such as white and red. Cords are casual, and normally loose fitting but you can find some slimmer fitting designs. If i’m honest I’m not a huge fan of cords and would only wear them if I had nothing else in my wardrobe, but this is to do with how they feel rather than how they look, they can certainly be included in any stylish wardrobe and worn casually.

Thirdly, let us not forget the good old trouser. Despite being nowhere as durable as jeans they do have a similar variation in style, at least in quantity; skinny trousers are available and you can of course get a variation in colour; whoever heard of pinstriped jeans! If treated with a bit of tlc trousers can last for a fair amount of time and they will tend to get people to take youa little bit more seriously than that smart pair of jeans or chinos.

You’ve then got all of those other stand out pieces that are really just for the brave – drop crop sweat pants, harem pants; which I saw a guy wearing in my local Tesco with a hoody (I don’t recommend them for that!) and some labels are also experimenting with jodhpurs.

There is nothing wrong with jeans at all, but sometimes they can get a bit tiresome, and hopefully this article will have given you a quick idea of some of the alternatives available, both mainstream and alternative. Below I’ve put some picks of what’s available out there.
